INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Anderson University softball team has been seeded sixth in the NCAA's Southeast Region and will face third-seeded North Georgia on Friday, as announced by the NCAA selection Committee on Monday.
The top two teams in the region rankings, Armstrong Atlantic and Lenoir-Rhyne, will each host half of the eight-team field for the Southeast Region, with the Trojans squaring off against the Saints at 2 p.m. in Hickory, N.C., at L-R's Bears Field.
Lenoir- Rhyne (35-14), ranked 11th nationally and the No. 2 seed, will follow the opening matchup by playing host to seventh-seeded and 25th-ranked Georgia College (36-15) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
Friday's contest will mark the first appearance in school history by Anderson (37-13) in the NCAA Division II Softball Championship, with the Trojans just one win shy of equaling last season's school-record win tally. AU will square off against the Saints (36-12), who entered the Peach Belt Conference Tournament as the third seed before falling, 5-2, to USC Aiken in the tourney quarterfinals in late April. North Georgia, ranked as high as sixth nationally in the NFCA Coaches Poll in mid-April, is making its sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The other half of the double elimination event features top-seeded and third-ranked Armstrong (36-7-1) playing host to eighth-seeded Wingate (32-20-1) in Savannah, Ga., while 16th-ranked Columbus State (39-16) faces fifth-seeded Mount Olive (34-13).
The two winners will advance to a two-out-of-three Super Regional, slated for May 17-18. The winner of the Super Regional will join the other Super Regional winners in the NCAA National Finals, scheduled to be held May 23-27 in Salem, Va.
Tickets are $7.00 each day and $4.00 for children 12 and under and students with proper identification.
