Laura Jansky Named Conference Player of the Week

ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson junior catcher Laura Jansky has been named the South Atlantic Conference softball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

The Kennesaw, Ga., native hit .417 on the week (5-of-12), while ripping three home runs and a double, and posting a slugging percentage of 1.250. Jansky drove in 11 runs to help lead the Trojans to a perfect 4-0 conference record on the week, as the Trojans swept Brevard at home, 13-3 and 9-1, and defeated Catawba, 3-1 and 11-2. Jansky also scored four runs and added a walk.

"Laura is very deserving of the honor," said Anderson head coach Tommy Hewitt. "She continually works on her game every day. It's great recognition for her as well as our softball program."

The 5-foot-6 catcher started all four games behind the plate and posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. Jansky is currently fifth in the conference in RBI and seventh in home runs. On the season, she ranks second on the team in homers and RBI and fifth in hits and runs scored.

The Trojans (23-5, 4-2 SAC) have won eight of their last 10 contests and are currently in fourth place in the conference standings, one game behind co-league leaders Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill.

AU opens an eight-game homestand on Thursday, as the Trojans welcome Georgia Southwestern to Smethers Field for a 3 p.m. scheduled first-pitch.
