ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson softball team finished a 10-game homestand with Georgia Southwestern State University on Tuesday, winning the first game 4-1, and falling in the second game 5-1.

In the first game the Trojans were able to ride a stellar pitching performance by Casey Deer to grab the win. In the loss, errors ended up taking the Trojans out of the game before they could put runs on the scoreboard. Anderson finished the 10-game homestand with an impressive 8-2 mark.

Game 1
Anderson 4, Georgia Southwestern 1

The Trojans took advantage of a Hurricane error in the second inning to get on the scoreboard. With one out, Charlotte Sieber singled to give the Trojans their first hit of the game. The next batter, Kinsley Durham reached base as a on a Hurricane error. Brooke Lucas then doubled down the left field line to bring home both base runners. The juniors' 14th RBI on the season equated to a 2-0 lead for Anderson.

Deer allowed just one base runner to reach second base through five innings, but Georgia Southwestern's Nichole Griffin singled to center field in te sixth inning to bring home a run for the Hurricanes. But it would be as close as the Lady Canes would get to Anderson in game one. The Trojans padded their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning to pave the way to their 19th victory of the season. The two runs of the inning came from an Abby Child home run and Lucas' sacrifice fly. The freshman's home run was her sixth on the season.

Lucas went two-for-three with three RBI. Child went one-for-three with an RBI. Deer (12-7) pitched the complete game as she gave up just one run on four hits. The senior was able to pick up her 12th win on the season as she pitched her 17th complete game in 18 starts.

Game 2
Georgia Southwestern 5, Anderson 1

Errors proved to be costly as three of the five runs that the Hurricanes scored were unearned. The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Georgia Southwestern was able to post four runs on the board. The inning started out with the Hurricanes loading the bases as a result of an error and two singles. After an infield pop-up and a strike out, the Hurricanes managed the four runs with a double and a Trojan miscue.

Going into the seventh inning, with the score 5-0, the Trojans would try to get back into the game as they scored a run off a pair of singles, but three straight groundouts ended the game.

Only giving up one run, Christie Shankle started the game for the Hurricanes as she scattered six hits over all seven innings. Again, Deer pitched the complete game for the Trojans as she surrendered just two earned runs in the loss.

The Trojans next take the diamond on Wednesday when they face conference foe Catawba. The first game of the doubleheader is set to get underway at 2 pm in Salisbury, N.C.
