HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Anderson softball team opened up a four-game road trip this weekend by splitting their first doubleheader against Coker College with a 2-1 loss and a 5-1 win.

Pitcher Casey Deer and the Trojan defense were stellar on the afternoon, yielding just three total runs as Anderson improved to 8-3 on the season.

Game #1
Coker 2, Anderson 1

This defensive match-up went into the fourth inning scoreless until Coker's Gina Easler hit a solo home run with one out to give Coker a 1-0 lead.

Trailing by a run heading into the sixth inning and with just six outs left to muscle a run, the Trojans did so with an Amber Duncan RBI- single with two outs. Emily Monteith hit a single with one out in the inning to give the Trojans life, Laura Jansky hit another single to move Monteith to second and Duncan came to the plate. Her base hit to left field knotted the score up at one apiece.

The game would go into extra innings, and with a runner placed on second to start each inning, the Cobras would take advantage of the situation as Haleigh Rogers sacrificed to center field to secure the win for Coker. Placed on second base to start the inning, Sarah Rountree was moved over to third when Jennifer Sanborn grounded out to third base. The next batter, Rogers would put the game away with her sacrifice fly ball.

Amber Duncan went one-for-two with an RBI. The RBI was her seventh on the season.
Deer went 7 2/3 innings for the Trojans, giving up just one earned run on four hits.

Game #2
Anderson 5, Coker 1

The second game of the doubleheader proved to be another defensive match-up, but the Trojans used a four-run fifth inning to earn the victory.

Coker jumped out to an early lead as Rogers hit a double to right-center to bring Rountree across the plate.

The Trojans scored in a similar fashion in the third inning as Danielle Swygert hit a double to left-center to score Kinsley Durham. The freshman's extra base hit produced her team-leading 17th RBI on the season.

The Trojans put the game away in the fifth as they managed four runs off four hits. Kinsley Durham started the inning with a single. The next batter, Lyndsey Huitt singled to put two base runners on and one batter later, Monteith singled to left field to bring Durham across the plate and send Huitt to third. Amber Duncan followed by grounding into a fielders choice to score Huitt and make the count 3-1. The big blast came from Charlotte Sieber as she doubled to left-center to bring home Duncan and Abby Child, who walked in the previous at-bat.

Sieber went two-for-three as she led the Trojans with two RBI. Her RBI would equal her ninth on the year. Monteith and Swygert both went two-for-four with a RBI each.

Deer started again for the Trojans, pitching the complete game, while giving up just one earned run.

The Trojans close out their four game roadtrip on Sunday when they face St. Andrews Presbyterian. The first game of the twinbill is set to start at 1 p.m. in Laurinburg.
