SALISBURY, N.C. - Catawba posted a doubleheader sweep of visiting Anderson in South Atlantic Conference softball action, 10-4 and 13-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Whitley Field.

Anderson (19-10, 1-3 SAC) has dropped three straight for the first time this season, while Catawba (19-13, 2-2 SAC) has won three consecutive contests.

Anderson struck quickly for a 4-0 lead in the opener. Freshman Danielle Swygert, who reached on an error to start the first, scored from third on a throwing error to put the Trojans up 1-0. With two outs, Charlotte Sieber and Kinsley Duncan doubled home runs then Brooke Lucas capped the frame with a RBI single.

Catawba pitcher Brittany Murray settled down after the shaky first inning and after a pair of one-out walks in the second, the junior sat down the final 17 Trojan batters and improved to 10-7. She allowed four hits, walked three and fanned seven.

The Lady Indians broke through in the third inning, putting up nine runs. Kayla Myers doubled home a run to get Catawba on the board and with one out Justice doubled home two more. Molly Kovalcin doubled home the tying run and Tara Gibbs scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

Catawba went on to tack on four more in the inning. Casey Baucom, Carly Sabat, Myers and Justice singled home the runs. The Lady Indians recorded 15 hits in the win with Sabat, Myers and Justice each collecting three each.

The Catawba bats stayed hot in the nightcap, jumping to a 13-1 lead after three innings. Justice delivered three more hits and drove in five, while Myers had two hits and scored three times. Kovalcin and Khourtni Hester each had three hits in game two.

Amanda Terry had one-out doubles to spark Catawba to its outbursts in the first two innings. Myers singled her in and later scored herself on a single by Justice as the Lady Indians led 3-0 after an inning.

Laura Jansky hit a solo home run for Anderson in the second, but Catawba came right back with four more runs. Justice and Kovalcin each had two-run singles. Hester had a two-run single and Justice a two-run double in a six-run third that pushed Catawba on top 13-1. Anderson scored four times in the fifth, three on a home run by Abby Child, but the Lady Indians were able to get the final out to post the win.

Anderson will get back on the diamond Saturday when the Trojans play host to league-foe Carson-Newman at Smethers Field. First-pitch versus the Lady Eagles is slated for 1 p.m.
