Softball Falls to Top-Seeded Lady Saints

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- The second round of the Conference Carolinas softball tournament saw the No. 4 seeded Anderson softball team up drop a tough 2-1 loss to No. 1 Limestone. The Trojans attempted a seventh inning rally, but were unable to push the tying run across. Anderson will take on eighth-seeded Coker in an elimination game Saturday at 11 am. The Trojans struck first as they snagged a run from the Lady Saints in the opening inning. Elisa Sebastyan, the second batter in the Trojans line-up, singled. The next batter, Meredith Knox, doubled to left field and brought Sebastyan across the plate. In the third inning, Limestone was able to take the lead 2-1 off of three hits. The Trojans, who rallied to pick up the win in their first round game, started off the seventh inning with an Amber Sutherland single. The next batter, Amber Duncan, reached on a throwing error by the Saints. A wild pitch allowed both Duncan and Sutherland to advance to second and third bases. The final three batters for the Trojans struck out twice and fouled out to end the game. Katie Van Gieson went four innings for the Trojans, giving up two runs off four hits. The reliever, Casey Deer went two innings as she gave up no runs off just one hit.
