Softball Drops Two at West Georgia

CARROLTON, Ga. -- The Anderson softball team opened the 2010 Wolves Invitational by suffering a pair of setbacks at the tournament, falling 6-3 to Florida Southern in the opener on Friday and 9-2 to Nova Southeastern. In the first inning of the opener, Brittaney Alderman gave the Mocs (7-7) their first run with a sacrifice fly that carried in the wind. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Florida Southern increased their lead when Bethany Boomer gave the Mocs another run with a double into the right center field gap that left the Trojans looking at a 2-0 deficit. Anderson (8-7) used a walk by Cameron White and a double by Meredith Knox to score once in the bottom of the third, and the score remained 3-1 until Florida Southern pulled away with two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Later in the contest, down 6-1, the Trojans left two runners on base in the bottom of the sixth, and then scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs in the seventh, Amber Sutherland kept the game alive with a bunt single. Sebastyan doubled her home to make it 6-2, and Knox singled up the middle to put runners at the corners. A Florida Southern error then gave Anderson another run and brought the tying run to the plate, but a pop-up ended the potential Trojan rally ended the game. Casey Deer (2-3) took the loss for Anderson, though only three of the six runs she allowed were earned. Sebastyan and Knox each had two hits and one RBI for Anderson. The RBI put Sebastyan at 18 on the season. Statistics and recap of the Nova Southeastern will be posted when available. Florida Southern Box Score
