Men’s Cross Country Claims Second Place at Newberry Invitational

NEWBERRY, S.C. – On the strength of four runners claiming top-10 spots and placing six runners in the top 14 berths, the Anderson men's cross country team finished second at Newberry College's first-ever invitational, late Friday afternoon.

East Tennessee State took home the team title, with the Trojans just behind. Wofford and the Citadel finished third and fourth, respectively, with Flagler and Edward Waters claiming fifth and sixth.

"Both teams ran extremely well today on a new course," said Anderson head coach Kevin Eagle. "There was great competition out on the course today, so it helped push our women and men more than the previous two meets. I am proud of both teams as they ran together and finished strong."

Senior Ben Clark covered the 8K Newberry College Cross Country Course in time of 26:40.3 and finished fourth, with teammate Philip Quillen taking home seventh place in a time of 26:55.4. Junior Thomas Sutcliffe (27:10.4) and sophomore Michael Burgess (27:19.4) claimed ninth and 10th place, respectively.

Freshman Jonathan Roberts (27:33.1) and senior Matthew Burgess (27:33.7) finished 13th and 14th, respectively. Senior Hayden Tuten finished 33rd in a time of 28:48.0.
