Men’s Cross Country Wins UNG Invitational

OAKWOOD, Ga. – With four Trojan runners finishing in the top five spots and claiming six of the top nine slots, the Anderson men's cross country team won the 8th Annual UNG Cross Country Invitational, Saturday morning on the North Georgia Cross Country Course.

The Trojans outdistanced West Georgia, Columbus State, Lander, Piedmont and Shorter en route to the win.

"Both teams ran as a unit once again, and it shows in the results," said Anderson head coach Kevin Eagle. "I am extremely proud of how the teams raced and competed. We are only given a handful of opportunities this year, so we have to take advantages of them when we have them. We had several personal bests today, so nothing gets better than that."

Senior Ben Clark, a native of York, S.C., paced the Trojans for the second consecutive outing, while covering the 8K distance in a time of 26:16.0 and claiming second place. Classmate Philip Quillen (26:24.6) claimed third place, with junior Thomas Sutcliffe crossing the finish line just behind in fourth place in a time of 26:26.1.

Junior Brandon Wilson (26:45.0) was fifth, with sophomore Michael Burgess posting a time of 26:51.2 and finishing seventh. Freshman Jonathan Roberts (27:03.3) crossed the line in the ninth spot, with senior Matthew Burgess (28:38.1) rounding out the Trojan contingent in 17th place.

Anderson will get back on the course Friday at the Newberry College Invitational.
