NEW ORLEANS - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the 2012 DII Cross Country All-Academic Team Awards, with both Trojan squads earning the honor.
"I am really pleased with the effort our cross country teams show in the classroom every year and this year was no different." said Anderson head coach Randy Greer.
With a team GPA of 3.29, the AU men's team was among a total of 88 institutions representing 21 conferences that compose the group. The NSIC led the way with 10 teams earning All-Academic status while GLIAC followed on the conference honor roll with nine.
The Grizzlies of Adams State University are the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Men's Scholar Team of the Year for the 2012 cross country season. The Grizzlies, coached by DII National Men's Coach of the Year Damon Martin, earned a cumulative 3.046 team grade point average through the 2012 fall semester.
Adams State captured not only its fourth title in the past five years, but also its ninth in program history. Each of Adams State's seven runners earned USTFCCCA All-America honors. In addition to Batt, Stevens and Daniels, senior David Sanchez (12th), sophomore John Luterbach (15th), senior Andrew Roberts (25th) and junior Jovanny Godinez also earned the distinction.
The Trojan women's team posted a team GPA of 3.44, joining 126
other teams from
23 conferences that compose the group. The PSAC claimed 15 squads
on the All-Academic list to lead all conferences. The Northeast-10
followed with 12.
The Lakers of Grand Valley State University were the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Women's Scholar Team of the Year. Coached by DII National Women's Coach of the Year Jerry Baltes, the Lakers earned a 3.312 cumulative team grade point average through the fall of 2012. The Lakers won their second NCAA cross country championship in three years last fall.
Scholar Teams of the year are determined from among those who
earned All-Academic status and placed highest as a team at the most
recent NCAA Championships.
