Men’s Cross Country Places 19th at Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Junior Parks Edwards trimmed more than three minutes from his season-opening effort two weeks ago to help lift the Anderson men's cross country team to a 19th-place finish at the 26th annual adidas/Winthrop Invitational Saturday morning, which was run on the Winthrop Farm Course.

Competing in a field of 27 teams in the 8K event, including 17 NCAA Division I squads, the Trojans finished fifth among D-II schools in the field.

Edwards' time of 27:59.17 was good enough for 107th, while sophomore Joshua Visi-Clark (28:05.81), who led the AU effort two weeks ago at the Eye Opener, garnered 113th while cutting 53 seconds from the season opener.

Senior Ryne Welch (28:58.69) crossed the line in 140th after shaving more than two minutes from two weeks ago and fellow senior Alex Pena improved his time by nearly three minutes to garner 142nd.

Freshman Tucker Huellmantel (29:29.23) cut nearly two minutes from the season opener to cross the line in 153rd and Alex Wallace (29:47.78) earned 159th.

Senior Drew Mahaffey (30:55.19) and Matt Imes (31:17.10) finished 178th and 182nd, respectively.

Following a two-week layoff, the Trojans will get back on the trails at the UNC Charlotte Invitational on Sept. 28.
