ANDERSON, S.C. - The Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference will hold its 2005 cross country championships Friday morning at the Pine Lake Golf Club. This is the fourth consecutive year the CVAC cross country championships have been in Anderson. The two races are being held one week earlier this year to give CVAC teams two weeks to prepare for the regional meet at Wingate. The start finish line for the winding, hilly course at Pine Lake - 8K for men and 5K for women - is located near the No. 2 tee. "We're excited about being the host school again for the CVAC championships," said Anderson head coach Aaron Schaffner. "The course we've laid out at Pine Lake is a challenging course that has provided some close, exciting competitions." The men's course record is 26:57 set by David Green of Coker in 2004. The women's course record is 19:29 set by Beth Schultz of Mount Olive in 2002. The women's race will start at 9:30 a.m. and the men's race will start at approximately 10:15 a.m. After the races, the annual CVAC cross country banquet will be held at 1 p.m. at the Abney Center on the campus of Anderson College. Lees-McRae won both the men's and women's titles last year.
