Men's Preseason Golf Poll

THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- The Pfeiffer University men's golf team is the favorite to win the 2006 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference championship, according to a poll of the league's head coaches. Anderson University, led by senior Curtis Norwood and freshman Adam Sheriff, was picked fifth in the poll. Pfeiffer won the 2005 CVAC title in a playoff. New Pfeiffer head coach Brandon Turner is eager to see how his 2006 Falcon team will respond. "We're extremely excited to get the opportunity to begin a new conference championship streak," he said. "There is an element of unknown, as we went through some changes. As we all know, it basically boils down to how well you play in April and May. Belmont Abbey College and Coker College finish in a tie for second place in the poll. After finishing third last season in the CVAC tournament, Belmont Abbey head coach Doug Ehmann is looking for big things from his team this year. Ehmann is excited about the two additions to his team for this season -- Kasey Timms, a transfer from Brevard College; and freshman Justin Wong. Coker has four of its top five players returning from last year, including All-Conference selections Johary Raveloarison and Vincent Dumouchel, along with Freshman of the Year Benoit Gordon. The Cobras suffered a playoff loss to Pfeiffer in last year's CVAC Tournament and finished third at the NCAA DII Atlantic Regional Tournament. Rounding out the golf preseason poll 4-10 were: Barton, Anderson, Queens, Mount Olive, St. Andrews, Limestone, and Lees-McRae respectively.
