Cape Fear Nips Tri-County For Men's Title

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Cape Fear Community College shot a 291 in the final round to slide past Tri-County Technical College and win the Anderson College Men's Invitational Tuesday afternoon at the Brookstone Meadows Country Club. Tri-County got a 68 from Anthony Richey, but Cape Fear used balance -- four scores at 75 or better -- to earn the title. A 71 by Brandon Hughes was Cape Fear's low round on Tuesday. Cape Fear won the title with a two-round total of 578. Tri-County finished three shots back at 581. Host Anderson was third at 594, and Southern Wesleyan was fourth at 605. Curtis Norwood led the host Trojans in the second round with a 72. Following Norwood for AC were Adam Sheriff and Clay Williamson with 73s and Will Ferguson with an 80. Sheriff, who finished fourth overall, was Anderson's medalist for the tournament at 142. In the individual competition, Richey (69-68) held off two players from Lees-McRae to capture the title. Matt Short of Lees-McRae (69-70) was second, and Dion Sirrianni of Lees-McRae (73-67) was third. Sirrianni's 67 set a record for low round for the event by two shots. Sirrianni's back nine in the final round featured six 4s and three 3s. Sheriff (69-73) was fourth and Hughes (72-71) was fifth. Kyle Parker of Spartanburg Methodist provided a highlight in the second round when he made a hole-in-one on the par-3, 110-yard 15th hole.
