Shaw Captures First-Team All-SAC Honors; Dotson Earns All-Freshman Team Recognition

ROCK HILL, S.C. – On the eve of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament semifinals and championship tilt, the duo of Randall Shaw and Carlos Dotson have earned all-conference honors as announced by the league office, Thursday morning.

Following a stellar sophomore campaign, Shaw garnered All-South Atlantic Conference First-Team honors, with Dotson earning an All-Freshman Team nod.

Shaw, who garnered Freshman of the Year and Honorable Mention All-SAC recognition a year ago, led the Trojans and ranked second in the league this season with his 20.6 points per game average. The native of Greenville, S.C., drained 67 treys on the season, which placed him 11th in the conference and sank 94 free throws, which was good enough for 10th.

Despite being hampered by injuries this season, the 6-foot-3 guard is just 31 points away from becoming the 13th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Shaw posted double figures in the scoring column on 19 occasions, while reaching the 20-point plateau in 14 contests and pouring in 45 points in AU's first win over Brevard. His scoring outburst equaled the 19th-highest output of the season in NCAA D-II and eclipsed former Trojan standout Chandler Hash's 44 points in a 2014 SAC Tournament semifinal win over Coker. It was the most for an AU player since Denzail Jones poured in 50 points in a 113-106 double overtime win over Newberry in the 2012 SAC Tournament semifinals.

Dotson drew a starting nod in all 29 games, while nearly averaging a double-double with 10.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. The redshirt freshman posted nine double-doubles on the season, marking the most since CJ Gleaton also recorded nine double-doubles during the 2013-14 campaign. The 6-foot-7 center ranked sixth in the conference in rebounding and was seventh in the league in field goal accuracy (56.5%), while leading the Trojans with 18 blocked shots on the season.

He reached the 20-point plateau on 14 occasions and recorded at least 10 rebounds in 10 contests, while scoring a career-high 24 points against both Lenoir-Rhyne and Lincoln Memorial. Dotson pulled down a career-best 16 rebounds in the Trojans' early-season win over Armstrong State.

Carson-Newman guard Charles Clark was voted the Player of the Year, while Newberry's Marshall Lange was voted the Conference's Freshman of the Year. In addition, Lincoln Memorial mentor Josh Schertz was tabbed the Coach of the Year.

Clark, a junior from Murfreesboro, Tenn., finished the regular season averaging 22.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. His 22.5 points per game were No. 1 in the Conference and his 47.5 3-point percentage netted him the fifth spot in the league.

Lange, a guard from High Point, N.C., averaged 12.9 points, 1.6 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game this season. He recorded 32 steals this season to rank No. 16 in the league. Lange put up a 46.6 field goal percentage on the year to go along with shooting 40.4 percent from beyond the arc. Lange's biggest night came in a win against Mars Hill where he scored a season-high 26 points to lead the Wolves to an 83-79 victory.

Schertz became the first-ever SAC coach to lead his team to five-straight conference titles after Lincoln Memorial shared the 2016-17 regular-season title with Queens. His team finished with a 19-3 conference record behind a 14-game winning streak to close out the season.
