Trojans Fall to Ninth-Ranked Royals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Anderson University men's basketball team dropped a 75-63 decision to ninth-ranked Queens in South Atlantic Conference action, Saturday afternoon at Curry Arena.

Anderson fell to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in league play with its second straight setback, while Queens improved to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the SAC with its fifth straight win over the Trojans.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Sophomore guard Randall Shaw, the league's leading scorer, shared game-high honors with 19 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Maurice Howard added 12 points. Junior guard Warren Vinson came off the bench to score 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
With Shaw and Dotson each scoring five points in the opening six minutes of the game, the Trojans claimed a 10-8 advantage – their largest of the contest. But the Trojans misfired on five of their next six shots and turned the ball over five times over the next six minutes, enabling the Royals to post a 21-3 run and build a 29-13 lead with more than eight minutes left in the opening half.

Less than five minutes later, Queens pushed out to its largest advantage of the game, at 39-20 and held a 15-point advantage at the half.

Second Half
Less than three minutes into the second frame, Howard dropped in a short jumper to trim the deficit to 45-34, but it was as close as the Trojans would get the rest of the way.

ANDERSON STAT OF THE GAME
The Trojans outrebounded Queens, marking the fourth time this season AU has collected more rebounds than its opponent.

NOTABLES
• Shaw missed last Wednesday night's game at USC Aiken, but has reached the 20+ point plateau in his last six games.
• The Trojans have drained at least five 3-pointers in every game this season, including a season-high 10 treys in the win over Southern Wesleyan.
Carlos Dotson has averaged nearly a double-double over the last three games, with 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, including 14 offensive boards in the last three contests.
• The Trojans outscored Queens, 30-22, in the paint marking the sixth time this season that AU has outscored its opponent in the paint.

UP NEXT
Following a six-day layoff for final exams, the Trojans return to the hardwood by playing host to Newberry on Saturday. Tip-off versus the Wolves is set for 8 p.m.
