ROCK HILL, S.C. – On the heels of one of the league's most prolific scoring nights, Anderson freshman guard Christian Jeffords has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday morning.
The 6-foot guard came off the bench and exploded for a career-high 37 points to help lead the Trojans past Newberry, 104-93, last Saturday night at the Abney Athletic Center.
Jeffords was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field, including five 3-pointers, in 11 minutes of first-half action and finished by going 12-of-13 from the field on the night. The Summerville, S.C., native was 9-of-10 from beyond the arc on the game and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the stripe.
His 37 points were the most since former Trojan standout Chandler Hash posted 44 points in a SAC Tournament semifinal win over Coker on March 8, 2014 and the nine treys equaled the 10th-highest total in the conference record books.
Coincidentally, the weekly honor is the first for a Trojan men's basketball player since Hash garnered the accolade in mid-November, 2013.
The Trojans will get back on the hardwood, Wednesday when they visit Coker. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
