GREENVILLE, S.C. - Sophomore hurler Spencer Earle tossed six full innings of one-run baseball and relievers Kyle Francis and Landon Beck combined to shut out Lander over the final three innings, as the Anderson baseball team upset nationally 10th-ranked Lander, 4-1, Tuesday night at Fluor Field.

Anderson (15-30) has won two of its last three and split the season series after avenging a 7-5 setback suffered a week ago in Greenwood at the hands of the Bearcats. Lander (29-9) suffered its' third straight setback.

Senior Tony Price led the Trojans offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and also scored a run. First baseman Steven Cooper added a single and an RBI, while Shawn Delmontagne and Jonathan Zalud each posted singles. Senior Erick Sanderson recorded a ninth-inning RBI.

Earle (2-4) allowed just one earned run on five hits over the six-inning stint. The right-hander struck out five and walked four and allowed just a pair of singles through the first four innings. Francis tossed an inning of hitless relief while striking out one, while Beck earned his league-leading eighth save of the season. He did not allow a hit in two innngs of work, while striking out three and walking two.

Lander's Johnny Walker (0-1) took the loss, while surrendering two earned runs on two hits in 1 1/3 innings of relief. He struck out two and walked one.

The Bearcats threatened in the second inning after Conner Lewis drew a lead-off walk and Weston Lawing followed with an infield single. Burt Earle settled down and retired Lander on an infield pop out and back-to-back strikeouts.

Zalud recorded Anderson's first hit of the night with a one-out single in the third, but the Trojans were unable to capitalize.

Earle limited Lander to just a pair of singles through the first four innings, but the Bearcats got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth by taking advantage of back-to-back singles with one out, and Graham Ramos' double off the green monster in left field scored Aaron Poole with the game's first run.

The Trojans answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame, as Delmontagne led off with a single through the left side and Nathan Galliford followed with a walk. Both runners moved up on Paul Como's sacrifice bunt and Price's two-out single to left plated both runners. Price moved into scoring position when the Bearcat outfielder bobbled the ball, but AU was unable to take advantage.

Anderson added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning when Price singled and moved into scoring position on Brett Cash's sacrifice bunt. After Josh Hickman coaxed a walk, Cooper's RBI-single brought home Price and Sanderson's deep fly to center plated Hickman.

Anderson opens a four-game road swing at Southern Wesleyan on Thursday. First-pitch versus the Warriors is scheduled for 5 p.m
