GREENWOOD, S.C. - Nationally third-ranked Lander continued its record-setting season by holding off Anderson, 7-5, in nonconference baseball action Tuesday night at Dolny Stadium.
Anderson (12-28) had its win streak halted at two, while Lander (28-6) notched its fifth in the last six outings.
The Bearcats' Ryan Jones (1-1) earned the win on the mound after striking out one, walking one and allowing one earned run on three hits in 3 1/3 innings pitched in relief.
Anderson's Kyle Francis (2-4) took the loss after striking out two, walking one and allowing two earned runs on two hits in 3 1/3 innings of relief.
The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Erick Sanderson's sacrifice fly plated Brett Cash, who had led off the game with a walk.
Lander tied it at 1-all in the bottom half of the inning when Patrick Grady's sacrifice fly sent Graham Ramos home, but Cash's two-RBI triple scored Paul Como and Jonathan Zalud in the second inning to give Anderson a 3-1 lead.
Lander went ahead 4-3 in the second when, with bases loaded, Adam Davey went home when Patrick Grady was hit by a pitch, and Ramos and Erik Lunde each scored on a pair of bases-loaded walks.
Anderson tied it at 4-4 in the fifth on Sanderson's solo homer to left field, his fourth of the season. Lander regained the lead at 6-4 in the fifth when Chris Hyatt's RBI-double down the left-field line plated Weston Lawing, and Jeff May went home on pinch hitter Tyler Wilson's sacrifice fly.
The Bearcats stretched their lead to 7-4 in the seventh on Hyatt's sacrifice fly that plated Colby Painter. Anderson scored its final run in the ninth on Steven Cooper's RBI single.
Sanderson finished the night 2-for-3, with two RBI and scored once. Cashed added the two-run triple.
Anderson will get back on the diamond quickly, as the Trojans
play host to Erskine on Wednesday. First-pitch versus the Flying
Fleet is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Stadium.
