ANDERSON, S.C. - Josh Hickman, Erick Sanderson and Paul Como combined for 10 hits and seven RBI, as the Anderson baseball team wrapped up its final home South Atlantic Conference series by splitting a doubleheader with Brevard, winning the opener 7-5 and falling 10-6 in the nightcap Saturday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium.

Anderson moved to 14-30 overall and 7-17 in the conference, while Brevard moved to 14-29 overall and 9-15 in the league.

Game #1
Anderson 7, Brevard 5

Sanderson was 3-for-4 at the plate in the opener and drove in three runs, while scoring once. Sophomore shortstop Brett Cash added a first-inning double.

Sanderson (2-4) earned the win by tossing seven complete innings and surrendering five earned runs. The right-hander struck out six and did not walk a batter. Sophomore Landon Beck garnered his seventh save of the season by retiring the Tornados in order in the top of the ninth, with two strikeouts.

The Trojans jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning, as Cash led off the bottom of the frame with a double to right-center and Josh Hickman followed with a walk. Steven Cooper moved both runners up with a sacrifice bunt and Sanderson's single to left brought them across the plate. Nathan Galliford added a single and Paul Como's double to left-center plated Sanderson. Freshman Chris Ayers brought Galliford home when he bounced out to the right side of the infield.

Anderson added a run in the second frame, when catcher Ben Pendleton drew a lead-off walk, stole second and crossed the plate on Cooper's single up the middle to push the lead to 5-0. The Trojans made it 6-0 in the fourth with Hickman scoring on Sanderson's two-out single.

But Brevard trimmed the Trojan lead to one with five runs in the fifth by batting around and capitalizing on four consecutive singles to start the inning.

AU set the final score with another solo run in the bottom of the fifth frame, as Ayers recorded a one-out single and scored on Pendleton's sacrifice fly to center.
Game #2
Brevard 10, Anderson 6

Hickman was a perfect 3-for-3 in the nightcap, while recording an RBI and scoring once. Como added a two-run homer in the fifth inning and Galliford walked twice and scored twice.

Thomas Goodman (3-4) suffered the loss while surrendering seven runs (five earned) in five innings of work. He struck out one and walked one. Bennett Hixon (2-2) picked up the win for the Tornados by tossing 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Junior Dustin Haithcox garnered his first save of the season by going three innings and giving up one run.

The Tornados took a quick 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the first, but Anderson answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame, with Cash leading off with a triple. He scored on Hickman's infield single and Galliford drew a bases-loaded walk to bring Hickman across the plate.

But Brevard erupted for six runs in the fourth by taking advantage of three singles and a pair of doubles to claim a 7-2 lead.

AU countered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth as Shawn Delmontagne led off with his second home run of the season and Como followed a Galliford walk with his fourth homer of the campaign to trim the Tornado lead to 7-5.

But it was as close as the Trojans would get, as Brevard answered with three runs in the top of the sixth. Galliford scored AU's final run of the contest in the bottom of the seventh.

Anderson squares off against nationally-ranked Lander for the second time in a week on Tuesday at the Greenville Drive's Fluor Field. First-pitch is slated for 7 p.m. The Bearcats held off AU, 7-5, last Tuesday in Greenwood.
