ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University men's soccer senior Josh Calabria and the volleyball team have been named to the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard for their outstanding performances in the month of October.
Calabria helped lead the men's soccer team to a 5-2-1 record during October, as the Trojans earned a No. 6 seed in the South Atlantic Conference Championship.
The native of Canberra, Australia scored a total of three goals and was credited with an assist during the eight-match span. Calabria had a two-goal, one assist performance on Senior Night to cap off his tremendous career donning the Black and Gold.
The senior defender's leadership helped lead the Trojans to a three-match win streak to extend the season with a spot in the SAC Championship semifinals.
The volleyball team posted nine wins without a loss during the month, as part of a school-record 19-match win streak than stretched into November. The streak is currently the fourth-longest in the nation, and the Trojans have not lost at home since October 18, 2016.
AU moved into first place in the league standings on the strength of the win streak and have clinched at least the No. 2 seed in the SAC Tournament later this month – their highest seed since joining the conference in 2010.
The Trojans rank in the top five in the league in a dozen statistical categories, while seniors Marissa Mitter, Rachel Burts, Serena Jackson and sophomore Emily Conlin either lead the league or are among league leaders in several categories. Mitter earned AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week honors twice in October, with Conlin capturing AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Specialist of the Week heading into the last week of the month.
Each month, one male and one female student-athlete or teams are honored as the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard Performers of the Month for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
