Women’s Cross Country Team and Men’s Basketball’s Randall Shaw Named to the AFCU Gold Standard

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University men's basketball junior Randall Shaw and the women's cross country team have been named to the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard for their outstanding performances in the month of November.

Shaw averaged a team-high 20.3 points per game, while drawing a starting nod in all seven games during the month. The Greenville, S.C., native was 41-of-92 (44.6 percent) from the field and 44-of-52 (84.6 percent) from the free throw line, while averaging nearly four rebounds per contest.

He reached double figures in the scoring column in all seven contests, including a season-high 32 points in the home setback to Limestone in mid-November. With his second basket of the game against the Saints, Shaw became just the 13th player in the history of the men's basketball program to reach the 1,000-career point plateau. He is the eighth player to reach the milestone in three years or less.

The women's cross country team made history in November by becoming the first AU cross country team to reach the NCAA National Championships.

The Trojans began the season by winning the USC Upstate Eye Opener and returned to Spartanburg, S.C., a month later and claimed the USC Upstate Invitational title by outpacing Newberry. AU wrapped up the regular season by also bringing home the Piedmont College Invitational crown in October.

AU earned the first-ever appearance on the national stage after a stellar second-place finish 2017 NCAA Southeast Regionals, which were hosted by Wingate. Led by senior Haylee Love's 10th-place finish and with four runners finishing in the top-14, Trojans outdistanced nationally 16th-ranked Mount Olive.

Love made her second straight appearance at the National Championships, while capturing All-Southeast Region accolades for the second consecutive season. Freshman Olivia Evans, along with the junior duo of Allyson Malone and Abigail Bozarth, also earned All-Region honors.

Each month, one male and one female student-athlete or teams are honored as the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard Performers of the Month for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
