ANDERSON-When Millersville (PA) University Marauders' head baseball coach Jon Shehan scheduled a four-game series against Anderson University, a cancellation due to snow and ice probably didn't enter his thoughts. But irony was the big victor this weekend and games originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday February 27th and 28th were cancelled today. Rare winter lightning early Sunday, and snowy conditions later in the day prompted Trojan head coach, Joe Miller to call off the weekend series with Millersville. Fortunately for the Marauders they have three more series planned in the southeast this week. They will travel to Francis Marion on Tuesday for a night game, eventually finishing the week with a two-game series at Coker and a three-game series in Murfreesboro, NC at Chowan University. There are no plans to make up the games at this time. The Trojans prepare to take their #23 national ranking on the road Tuesday as they will face off against future SAC foe, Mars Hill. Senior Blair Carson comes into the week sporting a .356 batting average and leading the Trojans in at bats with 59. "Blair Carson has a chance to cap off a real special career at Anderson this season," said coach Miller. The Trojans have been wielding big bats this year, and will no doubt be putting on plenty of hitting clinics for all to see at Anderson Memorial Stadium throughout the remainder of the 2009 season. Head coach Joey Eskridge and his Trojan tennis squads cancelled mens and womens away matches this weekend due to inclimate weather. Both teams were set to travel to USC Aiken on Saturday, and then to conference foe Pfeiffer on Sunday. The match against the Falcons has been rescheduled for March 26 and the non-conference match versus USC Aiken has been cancelled. The Trojan men will look to remain unbeaten in Conference Carolinas competion and overall, as they play host to Limestone College Thursday, March 5 at 2:30 pm. The AU men are led by Philip Pakebush, a 6'6" sophomore from Hamburg, Germany. Pakebush was last years' ITA Rookie of the Year. The Lady Trojans, who sit in thrid place in conference play at 2-1, will also welcome the Lady Saints into town on Thursday. Opening serve for the women is also slotted for 2:30 pm. The AU women are led by twin sisters Laura and Lisa Gorman, both 5'8" juniors from Jonesborough, TN. After helping their team to an 8-2 record in Conference Carolinas competition last year, the Gorman sisters look to improve their standing, starting with Limestone at home on Thursday...that is, if the weather permits.
