Turnovers Prove Costly As Trojans Drop Road Contest At Lenoir-Rhyne; 73-64

HICKORY, N.C. – Anderson University women's basketball (13-12, 7-8 SAC) drops road contest to South Atlantic Conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne (20-5, 10-5 SAC), 73-64, on Wednesday evening at Shuford Arena.

Anderson led after the first period of action, 20-17, with the quarter being capped off by a last second made jumper by senior Brittney Stafford. For the quarter, the Trojans shot 50% from the field and 4-of-5 from the line.

The Black and Gold continued its solid play during the first half of the second period, with Lenoir-Rhyne answering the call. After trading baskets, the Bears pulled away going on a 12-2 run over the final 3 minutes to gain and push its lead to, 41-30. LR outscored the Trojans 24-10 in the second period of play. AU committed six of its first half eight turnovers in the second stanza.

Anderson was able to cut the lead to five points after holding the Bears to just 26.3 shooting, during the third quarter of action.

The Trojans could not get the stops they needed in the final period to complete a comeback. LR shot 57.1 percent from the field, including a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Anderson finished the game with 18 total turnovers.

Sophomore Diamond McDowell scored a team-high 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to record her ninth double-double of the season. McDowell was also credited with a career high seven blocked shots. Senior Jalyn Spurlin netted 16 points while freshman Ashlyn Sheridan scored 12 points and pulled in six rebounds. Senior Britney Bailey grabbed 11 rebounds and chipped in 10 points on her way to her fifth double-double of the season.

LR's Emily Harmen led all scorer's with 22 points, while Baikley Crooks dropped in 16 points and Hannah Stull contributed 10 points for the Bears.

Anderson returns home to host SAC opponent Limestone on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 2 pm.
