Monroe Named AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week for Second Consecutive Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. - With back-to-back 21-point games last week in a pair of victories, Anderson University women's basketball standout Jennifer Monroe claimed her second straight AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor for games played between Dec. 14-20, announced by the conference office on Monday.

After earning her first career weekly honor last Monday averaging 17 points and 9.5 rebounds in a pair of victories, Monroe bettered herself by averaging 21 points and 13.5 rebounds in Anderson's back-to-back wins over SAC foes Coker and Catawba. Most recently, Monroe grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, including 13 on the defensive end, in a convincing 64-36 road triumph over Catawba on Saturday.

For the season, Monroe currently ranks third in the SAC in rebounds per game with a 9.1 mark, while also ranking 10th in the conference in field-goal percentage at 48.9 percent. The senior has now scored in double figures in AU's last four contests, headlined by three double-doubles in the span. The Clemson, S.C. native also becomes the first Trojan to earn the conference's weekly honor more than once in a season since former standout Alissa Diaz claimed the award twice during the 2012-13 season.

Monroe and the rest of the Black and Gold return to action on Thursday, Dec. 31 when it welcomes nationally-ranked Limestone to the Abney Athletic Center for a rematch of last season's Sweet-16 tilt. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
