Women’s Hoops Jolts to No. 19 in WBCA National Poll

LILBURN, Ga. - After opening the 2015-16 campaign with a pair of victories, Anderson University women's basketball jumped three spots to No. 19 in the USA TODAY Sports Division II Top 25 Women's Basketball Poll, announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Tuesday.

Last Saturday, the Trojans earned an 81-69 victory over archrival Erskine in their regular-season opener and followed that with a 53-45 triumph over South Atlantic Conference opponent Mars Hill on Tuesday. The win over MHU marked Anderson's 17th straight victory over a SAC team, dating back to last season. The 2-0 start matches last season's start when the Black and Gold opened the year with three straight wins before falling to nationally-ranked Limestone to close out the month of November.

Carson-Newman, which opened its season with a perfect 4-0 record headlined by a win over defending Peach Belt Conference champion Columbus State, joined AU as the only two members from the SAC to reach the top 25. Despite the ranking, the Eagles fell in their SAC opener on Tuesday to in-state rival Lincoln Memorial. Joining the SAC duo from the Southeast Region is Limestone (No. 8) and CSU (No. 14), while USC Aiken and Lander were receiving votes.

Anderson returns to action on Thursday when it welcomes USC Aiken to the Abney Athletic Center for a nonconference tilt. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
