Trojans Split With Railsplitters

HARROGATE, TENN. – Anderson University softball (24-28, 8-12 SAC) picked up a crucial win on the road, 4-2, before falling in the nightcap, 9-5, to South Atlantic Conference foe Lincoln Memorial (28-17, 12-6 SAC) on Wednesday afternoon at Dorothy Neely Softball Complex.

In game one, the Trojans scored a lone run in the first inning of play on sophomore Maddie Carpenter's single up the middle. LMU answered back to take a, 2-1, after four innings of play.

Anderson tied the game in the sixth inning and added two insurance runs in the seventh to claim the game one victory. After tying the game in the sixth, senior Morgan Charter was hit-by-pitch for her 55th time in her career. Seniors Jessica Neadow and Kayson Boatner hit back-to-back doubles to help give the Trojans a two-run cushion and eventually set the final score at, 4-2.

Freshman Carson Hobbs (10-7) toed the rubber scattering five hits in picking up her 10th win of the season.

In game two, AU scored first to take the early lead. However, LMU responded with five runs over the next four innings to hold the, 5-1, advantage with three innings to play.

AU's Carpenter led the fifth inning off with a double and scored on senior Olivia Wheeler's double to center field to cut into the lead. LMU came right back and exploded for three runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning to increase its lead to, 8-2.

Anderson would not go away quietly using five hits to score three runs in the top half of the sixth inning to bring the score to, 8-5. LMU added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and held AU scoreless to claim the nightcap, 9-5.

Junior Lane Edgington (9-9) gave up seven hits and walked five batters.

The Trojans will remain on the road to face SAC opponent Coker on Saturday. First-pitch is set for 2 pm.
