Trojans Pick Up Nonconference Split At Georgia College & State University

MILLEGEVILLE, GA. – Anderson University softball snapped a four-game skid defeating nonconference opponent Georgia College & State University in game one, 10-6, while dropping game two, 3-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Peeler Athletic Complex.

The Trojans fell behind early, 3-0, before scoring their first run in the top of the third inning. AU added two more runs in the top of the fifth, using two hits and an error to tie the contest at, 3-3.

The Bobcats score one run in the bottom half to retake the lead, 4-3. Anderson exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning on four hits and an error. The Bobcats answered back with two runs in the seventh, before AU shut down the threat and ended the game with a fly out and ground out.

Seniors Kayson Boatner, Olivia Wheeler and Yas Laureano each collected two hits to help the Trojans total nine hits.

Sophomore Trinity Queen (1-2) picked up her first win of the season, pitching a complete game. Queen scattered nine hits and walked one batter.

Game two remained scoreless through three and a half innings with the Bobcats putting up a three spot in the bottom of the fourth inning. AU used three hits and an error to produce two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Junior Hannah Whitaker hit a deep fly ball with bases loaded, to end the inning. GCSU set down the Trojans in order during the seventh inning to earn the game two win, 3-2.

Freshman Shelby Bandt and sophomore Madison McDonald recorded four of the six hits and they each scored a run.

Junior Lane Edgington (9-8) took the loss after pitching 6.0 innings, giving up five hits and three runs.

Anderson returns to conference action on Saturday when it host SAC foe Carson-Newman. First-pitch is slated for 1 pm.
