Softball Splits Nonconference Doubleheader at Limestone

 

GAFFENY, S.C. – Anderson softball split a nonconference doubleheader at Limestone, dropping game one, 3-1, while winning the nightcap, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Babe Ruth Field.

Anderson moves to to 3-3 overall while the Panthers improve to 3-5 overall defeating the Trojans for the first time in the series history.

Limestone held Anderson to just three hits while using one Trojan miscue to win the opening game of the doubleheader.

Sophomore Morgan Charter collected two of the three hits while junior Mattison Cantrell went 1-for-2. Charter hit her third double of the season.

Junior Sarah Middleton (1-2) suffered the loss pitching six innings. Middleton gave up six hits while striking out three.

Limestone's Caroline Ruth pitched a three-hitter while striking out seven.

Sophomores Kayson Boatner and Sydney Belcher each picked up two hits for the Black and Gold. Belcher ripped two doubles while Boatner drilled two home runs.

Junior Kayla Pepper (1-2) got the nod in the nightcap, pitching a complete game shutout. Pepper gave up just two hits while striking out six.

Limestone's Haley White (1-2) was tagged with loss. White gave up six hits, four for extra bases, while striking out seven.

"We just can't seem to find our stride, said head coach Tommy Hewitt. "Seems as though we are afraid to go out and win. Tomorrow will be a better day!"

UP NEXT

Anderson will host Georgia College on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 2 pm. at the AU Softball Complex.
