Men’s Cross Country Finishes 11th at Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. - Competing against eight NCAA Division I teams, including five Atlantic Coast Conference teams, the Anderson men's cross country team posted an 11-place finish at the Clemson Invitational Friday night at the Tiger's home course at Musser Farms.

The Trojans were coming off a seventh place finish and tops among D-II schools at USC Upstate's Eye Opener two weeks ago, and placed third among non-Division I teams over the 8K course.

Just as he did a year ago, AU sophomore Kyle Koby (26:33.95) paced the Trojan contingent by trimming nearly a minute off his time from the same course last season. Matt Shaffer (26:41.55), Alex Pena (26:43.83 and freshman Joshua Visi-Clark (26:48.47) nearly finished as a group, in 83rd, 84th and 86th, respectively. Shaffer and Pena shattered their times from a year ago, cutting more than two minutes off their times over the same course.

Sophomore Deniz Hay (27:04.69) crossed the line in 93rd, while Parks Edwards (27:39.84) notched 101st and junior Ryne Welch (28:30.84) garnered 109th .

Senior Drew Mahaffey (28:36.50) and Matt Imes (29:08.19) rounded the Trojan effort in 113th and 117th.
