GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Sophomore Jake Miller, freshman Cal Brock and freshman Colt Martin each fired 1-over-par 145s to lead the Anderson men's golf team to 13th place following two rounds at the Mustang Intercollegiate, which is being hosted by Western New Mexico at the par 72, 7,015 yard Palm Valley Golf Club layout.
The two-day event features six of the top 50 teams in country, with 11th-ranked Colorado – Colorado Springs leading the 20-team field by five strokes over Colorado School of Mines, with Simon Fraser, Dixie State and the host Mustangs sharing third place. Western Washington is sixth, with West Texas A&M holding the seventh slot. Colorado Mesa stands eighth, with Colorado State – Pueblo and Colorado Christian tied for 10th.
Regis, Cameron, Anderson, Ottawa (Arizona), Northeastern State, Saint Martins, UT Permian Basin, Montana State – Billings, Westminster and Fort Lewis round out the field.
UT Permian Basin's Austin Anderson (134) leads the chase for individual medalist honors by one stroke over Colin Prater (135) from Colorado – Colorado Springs and Western New Mexico's Pedro De La Vega (135).
The trio of Miller, Brock and Martin are tied for 38th place, with senior Forrest Fowler sharing 68th place after carding a two-round 148. Sophomore Brady Cox is tied for 94th after an opening-day 154.
The final round is slated to get underway Tuesday morning.
