Baseball Earns Academic Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Anderson baseball team has been named as a recipient of the 2022-23 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack, as announced Wednesday morning.

The ABCA recognized nearly 800 member college and high school programs from across the country. Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2022-23 academic year.

Over 300 high school programs and more than 450 collegiate programs were recognized with this year's award.

Joining the Trojans from the South Atlantic Conference were Emory & Henry, Lincoln Memorial, Newberry and Tusculum.

On the diamond, the Trojans finished the 2023 campaign with a 25-27 mark, with the 25 victories matching the program's second-highest win total since the 2007 squad earned 29 victories. After wrapping up the regular season with seven victories in its last 11 games, including series wins over two consecutive conference opponents and a 6-2 mark over its final eight league matchups, AU also captured its fifth overall appearance in the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Championship, with catcher Carlos Hernandez garnering Third-Team All-Conference honors.

Coaches were able to nominate their teams for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award following the conclusion of their spring semesters and prior to the July 13 deadline date. To be honored, teams had to meet the following criteria:
• Must be a high school or college team
• Head coach must be a current ABCA member
• Team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale during the 2022-23 academic year

Sports Attack was founded 1995 in Reno, NV, but our design and manufacturing folks pre-date the first wheel machines in the baseball industry, well over 50 years ago. With three active partners still heavily engaged, SA is proudly family-owned and operated. To say that we are manufacturers of quality sports training equipment just seems to not capture the essence of who we are.
