Galliford Selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

ANDERSON, S.C. - After the 2014 season was a year of achievement for the Anderson University baseball team, the accolades continued as senior outfielder Nathan Galliford was named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for District 3, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.

Galliford was one of two other outfielders and eight other positions players chosen to the team, becoming the first Trojan since former standout Derek Hipp claimed the honor following the 2010 season. The senior was one of four players to earn a spot from the South Atlantic Conference as Catawba's Paul Kronenfeld and Julio Zubillaga joined Lincoln Memorial's Scott Miller and Newberry's Chas Goodwin to round out the SAC's representation.

Throughout the season, Galliford was in the nation's home run chase, closing the 2014 year tying the school record in homers with 15, which led the league. Despite an early exit in the program's first SAC Tournament appearance, Galliford is tied for the conference lead in RBI with 50 for the year and ranked second in walks with 34. His .616 slugging percentage slotted him sixth in the SAC while his .420 on-base percentage was 17th.

Earlier this season, Galliford recorded a three-home run week with nine RBI and nine runs scored, becoming the SAC's Player of the Week on March 4. The outfielder became the first Trojan to receive the weekly honor since Brett Scarberry in 2012.

In the classroom, Galliford is scheduled to graduate on time with a 3.62 GPA while majoring in Education with a focus in physical education and coaching. The Miami, Fla. native has been named to Dean's List six times while being a member of Chi Alpha Sigma Honorary Society and the Kinesiology Club.

Away from his studies, Galliford has volunteered at Kendall United Methodist Church where he renovated classrooms and offices and is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

For the third consecutive year, NCAA Division II has its own Capital One Academic All-America® teams. In baseball, District III includes schools from the South Atlantic Conference, the Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director.
