MARS HILL, N.C. - After falling 7-1 in the opening game of the doubleheader, Anderson University baseball responded with a 13-1 win, splitting the South Atlantic Conference twinbill Saturday afternoon at Henderson Field.

With the split, the Trojans earn their first victory of the 2014 campaign and move to 1-6 on the season and 1-2 in league play. Mars Hill, which grabbed its first win on the season on Friday, moved to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Two Trojans recorded three hits on the afternoon as sophomore second baseman Kyle Bailey went a combined 3-for-6 for the day with two runs scored and an RBI after leading off in the second game. Senior right fielder Paul Como joined the sophomore with three hits, tallying a season-high four RBI in the 13-1 rout.

With two extra base hits, including his third home run of the season, senior outfielder Nathan Galliford went a combined 2-for-6 as the home run was AU's lone run of the opening game. Galliford followed the opening game with a 1-for-2 performance in the final game with two RBI and two runs scored. For the season, Galliford is leading the team in extra base hits with four and slugging percentage (.810)

Senior right-hander Thomas Goodman picked up his first victory of the season, tossing five complete innings and striking out five Lions. With the win, Goodman now carries a 1.64 ERA in 11 innings with eight strikeouts this season.

In the second game of the day, the Trojans went down early, 1-0, when MHU's Adam Daniel drove in Nick Villalobos with an RBI single in the second inning. After being blanked in the top-half of the third inning, the flood gates opened for the Trojans in the fourth as AU totaled an astounding 12 runs.

Anderson totaled eight hits for the inning, highlighted by back-to-back RBI doubles from sophomore first baseman Steven Cooper, who scored two runs and drove in a run for the game, and Galliford. Two Mars Hill pitchers, who came on in the fourth in relief, failed to record an out as every run in the inning was earned.

Preseason All-SAC Second Team selection Landon Beck came on for Goodman in the bottom of the sixth to close the door, as he struck out four Lions for the inning after his first strikeout was dropped by the catcher.

For Mars Hill, leadoff batter Evan Rogers went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in the opening game, as the Lions totaled 11 hits for seven runs to claim the series in the first game. Two other Mars Hill batters multi-hits as Phillip Carroll and Dalton Eisenbath posted two hits, as Carroll finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Eisenbath closed the opening game 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Anderson returns to diamond on Tuesday when it hosts Conference Carolinas opponent North Greenville. First pitch from Anderson Memorial Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
