Women’s Cross Country Finishes Second at Newberry Invitational

NEWBERRY, S.C. – With four runners claiming top-10 finishes, the Anderson women's cross country team finished as runners-up at the first-ever Newberry College Invitational, late Friday afternoon.

The Wolves held their inaugural invitational at the Newberry College Cross Country Course.

"Both teams ran extremely well today on a new course," said Anderson head coach Kevin Eagle. "There was great competition out on the course today, so it helped push our women and men more than the previous two meets. I am proud of both teams as they ran together and finished strong."

East Tennessee State claimed the team title, just ahead of the Trojans, while the Citadel took home third place. Wofford finished fourth, with the host Wolves claiming fifth place. Edward Waters rounded out the six-team field.

Senior Olivia Rish paced the Trojans with a third-place performance in a time of 19:19.9, with freshman Elise Matthews crossing the finish line in sixth place in a time of 19:33.8. Senior Hannah Beach covered the 5K distance in a time of 19:43.9 and crossed the finish line in eighth place. Junior Melea Sangl (19:53.8) claimed 10th place, with freshman Faith Nelson (20.07.1) taking home 12th place.

Freshman Madison Crumley finished 16th in a time of 20:33.9, while classmate Emily Golden was 18th in a time of 20:46.0. The freshman tandem of Hagan Wilson (20:48.6) and Elizabeth Timberlake (20:57.3) claimed 20th and 22nd, respectively, with sophomore Rebecca Ward finishing 24th in a time of 21:12.9.
