Women’s Cross Country Finishes 14th at Southeast Regional

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Paced by freshman Olivia Gardner's 44th-place finish, the Anderson women's cross country team placed 14th at the 2013 NCAA DII Southeast Region Championships, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday at McAlpine Creek Park.

"We have had a good season and I am really proud of all the hard work the kids put in," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer. "Now we can take a little break and get ready for track season."

Anderson was competing in familiar territory for the 6K race, as the Trojans ran at McAlpine Creek Park in both the Charlotte Invitational and the Queens Challenge during the regular season.

Anderson finished in the top-10 in every event during the regular season, earning fourth at both the Winthrop Invitational in September and the league championships.

Columbus State, the defending Southeast Region champion, finished third overall. Wingate, the top-ranked squad in the Southeast Region and the South Atlantic Conference champion, won the regional title.

Gardner crossed the line in a time of 23:41.9, while Second-team All-SAC honoree, junior Sydney Hazel placed 47th with a time of 23:52.0. Freshman Bari Robinson (24:45.2) earned 75th and freshman Amber Worthy placed 108th in a time of 25:34.4.

Senior Hannah Robles (26:06.3) and freshman Grace Gerlock (26:31.6) crossed the line in 125th and 142nd, respectively. Sophomore Devan Fisher (26:35.5) was just behind in 144th.

With AU's 14th-place finish and Erskine's 24th-place effort, the Trojans earned a point in the Beville Cup standings.
