Women’s Cross Country Finishes 10th at Charlotte Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. - Freshman Olivia Gardner paced the Anderson women's cross country team to 10th place Saturday morning at the Charlotte Invitational hosted at McAlpine Park.

"We ran really well," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer. "It was a good showing. We still have some work to do, but we were pleased with the outcome."

The Trojans, who are ranked seventh in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) DII Regional Rankings, were competing at the 6K event for the third consecutive season and got a preview of the NCAA Southeast Regional, which will be held on the same course in early November.

Gardner led the way for the women's squad for the third consecutive outing and claimed 20th in a time of 23:00.8, while junior Sydney Hazel finished in 23rd place in a time of 23:08.0. Freshman Bari Robinson (24:24.4) captured 47th, while senior Hannah Robles (24:58.1) crossed the line in 62nd. Newcomer Grace Gerlock finished 66th in a time of 25:10.3 in her first outing wearing the Black and Gold.

Another freshman, Amber Worthy, placed 80th in a time of 26:00.4, with sophomore Devan Fisher (26:38.3) crossing the line in the 86th spot.

Competing in the Green Division, freshman Mia Swiersz finished 28th in a time of 26:25.8.

Following a two-week layoff, the Trojans will get back in action at the Royals CC Challenge, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte.
