Women’s Cross Country Ranked Seventh in Southeast Region

NEW ORLEANS - On the heels of its' impressive outing in last Saturday's Winthrop/adidas Invitational, the Anderson women's cross country team has vaulted into seventh place in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) DII Regional Rankings released Tuesday morning.

The Trojans, who were previously unranked, join fellow South Atlantic Conference members Wingate and Mars Hill, which are ranked second and 10th, respectively. Lenoir-Rhyne, which was tabbed seventh last week by the USTFCCCA, dropped out of the top 10.

"I feel like the girls have proven they belong with the top teams in the region and Saturday's race was confirmation of that," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer.

The Trojans captured fourth-place at the 27th annual Winthrop/Adidas Invitational Saturday, with freshman Olivia Gardner leading the AU effort by placing 10th overall in a time of 19:28.43. Junior Sydney Hazel (19:48.53) finished 14th and freshman Bari Robinson (20:25.14) nearly captured a top-20 finish, placing 21st.

Anderson will get back on the course Saturday, when the Trojans are slated to compete in the UNC Charlotte Invitational.
