Pernell Wrap up Pentathlon Competition at Queens Combined Events

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Anderson's Lauren Pernell wrapped up competition in the pentathlon by finishing 17th at the Queens Combined Events Tuesday afternoon, with the Royals hosting the two-day event at the JDL Fast Track indoor track and field facility.

"In her first-ever pentathlon, we came into it as a glorified practice to see how Lauren would react and perform with doing five different events in the same day of competition," said Anderson head coach Kevin Eagle. "I am very pleased with how Lauren did as she barely missed the school record by 30 points, which in a multi event, is nothing. We have three weeks until the SAC championships and Lauren is primed to exceed her performance from today."

Pernell began by finished 22nd in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 10.08 and followed up by tying for 19th in the high jump with a height of 1.42 meters, while capturing 15th place in the shot put with a toss of 8.60 meters. She claimed the 20th-best distance in the long jump (4.58 meters) and finished 12th in the 800 meters in a time of 2:36.49.

Philip Quillen and Thomas Sutcliffe will be competing Friday in the 5,000 meter run at Grand Valley State's Big Meet in Allendale, Mich., while both squads are scheduled to get back in action Saturday, Feb. 22 at the South Carolina Indoor Open.
