ANDERSON, S.C. - After falling behind 2-1 at the completion of the
doubles round, Anderson University men's tennis battled hard edging
out Newberry on Wednesday, handing the Wolves their first South
Atlantic Conference loss of the year, at the AU Tennis Complex.
Anderson improves to 8-4 overall and 5-1 in SAC play while the Wolves drop to 17-2 and 6-1 in conference action.
Veterans Paul Michael Calhoun and Nicolas Ascarrunz earned the lone doubles victory over Jordan Monosky and Jacob Svantesson, 9-8. Fernando Tous and Fernando Espana outlasted Trojan duo Aljaz Cajzek and Mateo Rivas, 9-7 at the No.1 spot while Richard Zeh and Logan Atkins won 8-4 over Juan Carracedo and Inaki Iriberri at the No. 3 slot.
Despite the defeats in doubles, the Trojans were playing well heading into singles action. Cajzek, Rivas, Inaki Iriberri and Calhoun earned the four singles victories needed to hand the Wolves their first SAC loss of the season.
Anderson returns to the courts on Friday when it hosts South Atlantic Conference opponent Carson-Newman. First serve from the AU Tennis Complex is set for 2 p.m.
