ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University senior Lindsay McCurley and freshman Juan Jose Alvarez have been named the Jimmy John's Female and Male Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 2.
McCurley, a volleyball player from Simpsonville, captured the honor for her extraordinary leadership while serving as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The Trojan SAAC was recently recognized for raising $6,305 as part of its' ongoing fundraising efforts to help raise money for Make-A-Wish - most of any school in the South Atlantic Conference.
A defensive specialist/libero, McCurley recorded 15 digs and a pair of service aces in AU's 3-1 win over Limestone last Friday.
Alvarez, a men's soccer player from Santiago, Chile, scored a goal in both matches last week in the loss versus Limestone (Sept. 28) and the win at Emory & Henry (Oct. 2). The win on Sunday at E&H marked the first victory in South Atlantic Conference play for the Trojans. For the season, Alvarez is second on the team in goals with three, behind only Diego Jaramillo who has four goals.
Each week, one male and one female student-athlete are honored as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
