Wood Tallies Three To Lead AC

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Blake Wood scored three goals and Ryan Nesbitt scored two goals to lead Anderson to a 6-2 victory over Division III Oglethorpe in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon at Smethers Field. AC finishes the regular season at 8-9-1 and will play its first-ever CVAC Tournament match Wednesday at a site to be announced, mostly likely Belmont Abbey, Sunday afternoon. Wood, a sophomore from Chapin, now has 13 goals this season. As a team, Anderson scored just 16 goals during the 2001 season. Vinny Pacelli, playing in his final home match, opened the scoring for AC six minutes into the match. Wood made it 2-0 eight minutes later with a blast from in front. Wood scored his second goal five minutes into the second half off a pass from Nesbitt to increase the Trojan lead to 3-0. After James Parks scored for Oglethorpe in the 58th minute, Nesbitt answered just one minute later off an assist from Ryan MacDonald. Wood's third goal was a line drive into the upper right corner in the 61st minute. Nesbitt scored his second goal and his sixth of the season with 14 minutes remaining in the match. The shots were even at 20 apiece. AC goalkeeper Asa Moran made nine saves.
