ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson men's golf team will conclude a two-week layoff by competing at the Cliffs Intercollegiate, which will be hosted by North Greenville at The Cliffs at Mountain Park, Monday and Tuesday in Traveler's Rest, S.C.
This season marks the second consecutive year the Trojans will compete in the two-day event, after finishing 11th last season. Payton Whitlock posted a 159 a year ago and finished 48th with Forrest Fowler finishing one shot further back in 49th.
Two weeks ago, freshman Cole Jefferys posted a two-day 6-over-par 148 to lead the Trojans to a fifth-place finish at the Tusculum College Invitational. Jefferys' effort landed the Macclesfield, N.C., native in a three-way tie for 11th place, while Fowler and senior David Wachter finished in a tie for 23rd. Whitlock wrapped up the tournament tied for 33rd , while sophomore Ryan Kincaid rounded out the Trojan contingent in a tie for 49th.
Through five tourneys in the 2015-16 campaign, Wachter leads the
Trojans with a 77.10 stroke average and finished in a tie for
fourth at the Emmanuel Invitational, while Fowler has averaged
77.40 through 10 rounds and notched a season-best eighth-place
finish at the AU Invitational last September. Wachter and Jefferys
share the squad's low round of the year, with both firing
opening-round 72s at the Tusculum Invitational.
