GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Freshman Cole Jefferys posted a two-day 6-over-par 148 to lead the Anderson men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Tusculum College Invitational on Sunday. The event was hosted by the Pioneers at the par 71, 6763 yard Link Hills Country Club.
Jefferys' effort landed the Macclesfield, N.C., native in a
three-way tie for 11th place, while sophomore Forrest Fowler and
senior David Wachter finished in a tie for 23rd after carding
two-day 9-over-par 151s. Junior Payton Whitlock wrapped up the
tournament tied for 33rd after firing an 11-over-par 153, while
sophomore Ryan Kincaid rounded out the Trojan contingent in a tie
for 49th with an 18-over par 160.
After trailing by three shots following Saturday's first round,
Tennessee Wesleyan's Evan Ball claimed individual medalist honors
by two strokes over
Tusculum's Nick Forsberg, Spartanburg Methodist's Matthew Terry and
teammate Travis Rodgers.
The Pioneers (577) defended their tournament title by five shots over second-place Tennessee Wesleyan (582) and were 13 shots better than Spartanburg Methodist (590). Walters State (597) jumped from sixth to fourth, with Anderson (603) remaining fifth six shots further back. Northwestern Ohio (606) slipped from fourth to sixth and was followed Marian (609), Cape Fear (617), Lincoln Memorial B (619), Northwestern Ohio B (620), Tennessee Wesleyan B (622), Bluefield State (630), Northwestern Ohio C (643) and UVa-Wise (659).
Following a two-week layoff, the Trojans return to the links on March 21-22, at the Cliffs Intercollegiate, which will be hosted by North Greenville.
