Women’s Cross Country Finishes Seventh at Royals Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In its final tune-up for the South Atlantic Conference Championships, the Anderson University women's cross country team finished seventh of 40 teams at the Royals Challenge, which was hosted by Queens Friday afternoon at McAlpine Creek Park.

Senior Olivia Gardner led the Trojan effort for the second time this season by finishing 36th in a time of 18:38.7, which was less than nine seconds off her career-best time. Junior Haylee Love finished 38th in a time of 18:42.4, while junior Alex Dixon claimed 50th place in a time of 18:56.7. Sophomore Abigail Bozarth was 56th overall in a time of 18:59.4.

Freshman Breck Jones trimmed 49 seconds off her previous season-best effort, while placing 90th in a time of 19:28.9, with sophomore Maddie Buddenberg (19:29.5) cutting 39 seconds off her previous season-best effort and claiming 91st place. Sophomore Martha Coleman was more than 20 seconds faster than her previous season-best with a time of 19:32.8 and claimed 95th place.

Senior Grace Gerlock (19:49.3) finished 114th, with freshman Morgan Bridges knocking 51 seconds off her career-best and claiming 120th place. Junior Hannah Sanford was 124th in a time of 19:56.0, while freshman Rebecca Faircloth (20:02.0) cut 52 seconds off her career-best while placing 132nd. Senior Mia Swiersz posted a time of 20:29.0 and claimed 151st place.

Senior Amber Worthy posted a time of 21:44.9 and finished 229th, while senior Bari Robinson finished 254th in a time of 22:13.7. Freshman Emily Olson (25:32.8) rounded out the Black and Gold contingent in 319th place.

Next up for the Trojans is the South Atlantic Conference Championship, which will be hosted by Newberry on Oct. 22, 2016 at the Clemson Sandhills Research and Education Center in Columbia, S.C.
