AUGUSTA Ga. - Despite junior Karen Ching posting wins in both the singles and doubles round, Anderson University women's tennis dropped to GRU Augusta, 6-3, in nonconference action Friday afternoon at the Newman Tennis Courts.

The setback moves the Trojans to a 4-5 mark, while the Jaguars earn their eighth win of the season, improving to 8-4.

Anderson began the afternoon capturing one of the three doubles matches as Ching and senior Avery Owens cruised to an 8-3 win over GRU Augusta's tandem of Aida Castany and Marie Vin at the No. 1 position. The win was the duo's fifth of the year.

Facing the 2-1 deficit heading into the singles round, Ching continued her winning trend with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Castany at No. 1. Freshman Rebecca Bruning improved her singles mark to 7-1 for the year with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Gisela Font at the No. 3 spot. With the victory, Bruning has now won five straight singles matches as has not dropped a set in over a month.

In the other four singles matches, the Jaguars captured straight-set victories, clinching the nonconference win.

The Trojans look to find the winning track when they visit South Atlantic Conference newcomer Queens on Tuesday. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
