WALLACE, N.C. – Paced by junior Kate Hill and senior Tiffany Elam's three-round, 9-over-par 225s, the Anderson women's golf team wrapped up the 54-hole Sunoco Campbell Oil Classic in fourth place on Tuesday.
The two-day tourney was hosted by UNC Pembroke at the par-72, 5,812 River Landing Golf Club course.
The host Braves outlasted a field that included four top-30 teams to win the event by 11 shots over runner-up Wingate, which is ranked 29th. No. 26 Carson-Newman finished in third place, six strokes further back, with the 23rd-ranked Trojans claiming fourth place. Mount Olive finished fifth, while Queens claimed sixth place. No. 27 Lenoir-Rhyne finished seventh, with Catawba and Erskine finishing eighth and ninth, respectively.
Merrimack, Southern New Hampshire, Mars Hill, Stonehill and Sandhills Community College finished out the 14-team field.
UNC Pembroke's Katy Flax (70-71-77=218) held off teammate Alexandria Bare (72-72-76=220) and Merrimack's Krystal Knight (71-72-77=220) to earn individual medalist honors.
Elam jumped from a share of 21st place following Monday's opening rounds into a tie for ninth place, alongside Hill, who entered Tuesday's final round tied for 15th. Sophomore Anna Freeman claimed a share of 11th place, while freshman Victoria Hall finished in a four-way tie for 22nd. Freshman Kerington Lamb finished 31st.
The Trojans are slated to wrap up the season at the South Atlantic Conference Championships, April 7-9, at Lake Hickory Country Club in Hickory, N.C.
