Women’s Golf Leads Following Opening Round of UIS Island Getaway

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – With the freshman duo of Victoria Hall and Kerington Lamb leading the way with 4-over-par 76s, the Anderson women's golf team is in first place following opening-round action Monday at the Illinois-Springfield Island Getaway.

The Prairie Stars are hosting the 36-hole event at the 6,062 yard, par-72 Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Resort Ocean Course layout.

AU is poised to win its third tournament of the fall season, as the Trojans lead Missouri S&T by 18 strokes heading into Tuesday's final round, with Texas Wesleyan three shots further back in third place. Illinois-Springfield rounds out the four-team field.

After carding a 3-over 75, UIS's Ocean Pangan leads the chase for individual medalist honors by one stroke over Hall and Lamb, who share the second spot. AU sophomore Anna Freeman fired a 5-over-par 77 and is in fourth place, just two shots off the pace.

Trojan senior Tiffany Elam posted a 6-over 78 and is tied with Texas Wesleyan's Elena Sinde Romero for fifth place, while junior Kate Hill notched an opening-round 80 and is tied for seventh place. Seniors Samantha Ellison and Makalyn Poole each carded first-round 87s and are tied for 16th.

The second and final round is slated to get underway Tuesday morning.
