West Florida Women Take Commanding Lead

ANDERSON, S.C. -- West Florida had four players at 80 or better to shoot a 312 and take a 10-shot lead after the first round of the fourth Anderson College Invitational Monday at the Brookstone Meadows Golf Club. West Florida was the only team to have three players in the 70s -- Lorena Fortlage 75, Clara Fornella 78, and Sarah Nicholson 79. Victoria Jackson added an 80 for West Florida's fourth score. Nova Southeastern is second at 322, host Anderson is third at 340, Pfeiffer is fourth at 341, Catawba is fifth at 348, and Wingate is sixth at 351. All four of West Florida's players are in the top six. Fortlage is the individual leader, three shots ahead of Fornella and Lina Bjorklund of Nova Southeastern. Nicholson is tied with Paige Haverty of Catawba at 79. Jackson, Anne-Sophie Friis of Nova Southeastern, and Carlie Eastman of Anderson all are tied at 80. The field averaged 92.60 on the hilly 5,800-yard Brookstone layout. The second round will be played Tuesday morning.
