SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Sean Shelton continued to pace the Anderson University men's golf team, as the Trojans sit in 10th place after second-round action on Monday at the three-day Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship, hosted at the 7,054-yard, par-72 Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.
Tusculum (36-301=607) moved from second to claim the top spot entering Tuesday's final round, while Wingate (310-298=608) garnered the second spot. Lincoln Memorial (305-306=611), which led following Sunday's opening round, is tied for third with Carson-Newman (313-298=611). Newberry (313-302=615) holds the fifth spot, while SAC-newcomer Queens (313-305=618) is three shots further back in sixth.
Coker (316-304=620) lept from 10th to seventh, while Brevard
(316-310=626) and Catawba (316-316=632) occupy eighth and ninth,
respectively. Anderson (316-319=635), Lenoir-Rhyne (324-319=643)
and Mars Hill (325-322=647) round out the 12-team field.
Wingate's Ben Gebhardt (77-67=144) leads the individual medalist
chase by three strokes over Tusculum's Nick Forsberg (74-73=147).
LMU's Connor Froning (75-74=149), Newberry's Richard Mansell
(77-72=149) and Coker's Josh Clay (76-73=149) head into Tuesday's
final round tied for third.
Shelton (76-77=153) posted a pair of birdies, but also carded a double bogey at No. 11 and is 13th, with senior Arran Setro (80-80=160) holding the 36th slot. Sophomore David Wachter (80-81=161) is 40th, with junior CJ Messana (83-81=164) in 47th.
The third and final round of the championship is set to get underway at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, weather permitting.
